29th Summer Universiade, Taipei

The Universiade is an international sporting and cultural event which is staged every two years in a different city. It is only second to the Olympic Games. The Summer Universiade consists of 14 compulsory sports and up to 3 optional sports chosen by the host country.

Embracing International University Sports Federation’s (FISU) motto of ‘Excellence in Mind and Body’, the Summer Universiade incorporates educational and cultural aspects into 12 days of sports competitions, allowing university student-athletes from all over the world to celebrate with the host city in a true spirit of friendship and sportsmanship.

The 2017 Summer Universiade set for Taipei will be the biggest and most prominent international sports event ever in Taiwan. 29th Summer Universiade 2017 Taipei is scheduled to be held from 19th to 30th August 2017.

The Universiade is the ultimate dream for university athletes worldwide. In this year our two promising female and male athlete from our university are going to participate in the above games. Mr. U. Vinothkumar (Faculty of Arts) and Ms. R.A. Prasadi (Faculty of Arts) have been selected to represent the Sri Lanka University Weightlifting Team and Table Tennis Team respectively to participate in the 29th Summer Universiade 2017 Taipei.

Mr. U. Vinothkumar has been selected through won the Champion in the Inter University Weightlifting Championship – 2017 by the performance of 86kg in Snatch, 117kg in Clean & Jerk and total 203kg under 85kg weight category. Ms. R.A. Prasadi has been selected from the selection trials on Table Tennis for 29th Summer Universiade 2017.
